Another Way to Work Your Favorite Nude Lipstick

Your recipe for new nude lips

Check this out. I do it often. It’s one of my favorite lip tricks of all time!

Even when you regularly roll with eight nude lippies at any given moment, sometimes you still want to shake things up, which is where a sheer berry gloss comes in handy.

“Sheer” is the key word here, i.e., something to add a tantalizing touch of berry tint to tease and tempt without taking over.

  • Start with a layer of your nude lippie du jour.
  • Blot (if you want), but I usually skip it because…laziness, TBH. But it’s helpful if you’ll be taking pics because it keeps your lip color from looking thick and gooey.
  • Apply a layer of gloss directly on top, but WAIT! — don’t stick that wand back in the tube quite yet. Wipe off any lipstick with a tissue first so the lipstick doesn’t mix with your gloss and change the color. Optionally, instead of using the doe foot directly on your lips, you can swipe it on the back of your hand, then pick up the gloss from there, and apply it to your lips with a finger.

You can also do this trick with reds, purples, browns — any sheer gloss you like.

Good morning, BTW. Happy Tuesday. 🙂

I ADORE this look on you! It’s so pretty and polished without being over the top.
This is a good tip, one that I haven’t been doing because of masking but I should start again.
On my wedding day a million years ago I wore Bobbi Brown’s pink lipstick with a layer of opaque white gloss on top so the effect was kind of ice princess. Really pretty.
Bobbi’s pale pink gloss is a good one for layering over a nude too.

In other lip product news, I got a sample of YSL Tatouage Couture Velvet Cream #216 from the mothership and I Am In Love!
It makes my lips feel soooo good and soft and has the faintest scent of rose. And the color lasts. I haven’t priced them but I need to go buy all the colors!

Have you seen Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu? I think you’d like it.

I tried watching the first episode and ended up falling asleep. Should I push on?

You look fab! I love the lip trick since the horror of having anything that’s not subtle on my lips makes me itchy. HAHA! Also, your skin looks fab and the shadow/liner are very polished, as Jennifer said! This is a great look!

I’ve got a sheer red gloss I’m often afraid to wear, I’m gonna try this! Nice baby wing, looks beautiful!!

Karen, I have to say you look beautiful in these pics – like a 1960’s film star!

I love doing that with reds – most nudes make me look dead if I wear them on their own.
