A 10-Minute Makeup Look With Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez

rare beauty by selena gomez sephora

Yesterday I had a DAY (work has been a little challenging), so I did some therapy of the retail variety at Sephora! I picked up some products from Rare Beauty, a vegan and cruelty-free makeup line by actress, singer (and cooking show host!) Selena Gomez.

After reading your nice comments on the 5-minute real life FOTD post the other day, I realized that many of you have the same take on makeup as I do at the moment — you love it, but don’t want to necessarily spend a ton of time putting it on.

That’s why I ended up grabbing a few pieces that I thought would work for fast and fresh looks…

  • Rare Beauty Discovery Eyeshadow Palette — I liked the variety of finishes. Matte, glitter and shimmer!
  • Rare Beauty Melting Blush in Nearly Apricot — This formula is supposed to be kind to dry skin.
  • Rare Beauty Nearly Natural Cream Eyeshadow — A matte, warm beige. It kinda reminds me of MAC Soft Brown, but in cream shadow form.
  • Rare Beauty Dewy Lip Balm in Empathy — Don’t laugh, but I bought this mostly because I liked the name.

Have you tried anything from this brand? What do you like/don’t like?

Thanks, Michelle! It was really easy to do, and so, so fast. I’m all about the quick looks nowadays.

I’m so glad you tried this brand. I love Selena as an actress, I’ve been watching her since she was on Disney and my kid was young enough to watch Disney. And now I adore her with Steve Martin and Martin Short in Only Murders in the Building. I can’t wait for Season 2.

I haven’t tried it yet. I’ve been waiting for you to give me the 411. I tend to be leery of celebrity brands, unless the celeb is someone like Rihanna whose style is On Point. You know?

How’s the wear time on these?
Also, I would never laugh at you for buying a lipstick because of it’s name. I’ve done with lips and nail polish.

I hope you don’t have any more days this month of it’s been “a Day.” I know exactly what you’re talking about.

I’m about three hours in and the blush, cream shadow and powder shadows are holding on strong. The lip balm has worn off because I’ve been drinking water, but it left behind a very pretty stain, which I like!

Sure, Noemi! There are a few other things I want to try — the liquid blush (although it’s supposed to not be super great for dry skin), the matte liquid lipstick, the lipgloss and the concealer. Maybe the liquid liner (although I looked at the felt tip yesterday, and it seemed huge).

Hi! I love the liquid blush. I have combo to dry skin & have no issues. I think skin prep probably makes a big difference.

I have the Rare Beauty foundation. I like it, but you have to be really on top of your moisturizer game with it, so it’s not a winter foundation for me.

I was curious about it and read that it wasn’t forgiving on dry skin, which is why I didn’t pick it up. Have you tried the concealer?

I haven’t tried anything but the foundation and the Soft Pinch blush. The Soft Pinch blush was too much work. The color is fairly intense and dries so quickly that you can tip over into a clown makeup look too easily. I found out the hard way that it is *nota blush you use when you need a five minute face.😮 I’m glad to hear the Melting Blush is better; it looked like it might be a little easier to work with.

Oh, thanks Noemi! I used the cream eyeshadow as a base (and could’ve just stopped there, it was so pretty), then layered a few shades from the eyeshadow palette on top — the matte light brown (crease and lid), the shimmery pink (inner corner, I just pressed it on with a finger) and the darker brown (just a touch in the outer corner). The thing is, in real life, it looks more dramatic. Here, in pics, the flash tends to drown out the colors a little bit.

    Hi,
Thanks for this, I’m all about the quick and easy looks these days!

I have a request: Would you please consider doing a review of some Trinny London cosmetics? I am intrigued by them, but I haven’t read much about them yet.

    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

This looks really nice! Like Jennifer said, I thought she was adorable in Only Murders in the Building. 🙂

I tried starting that show but couldn’t get into it. Is it one of those things where you need to get through a few episodes?

Sorry, you probably answered your own question by now!! 🙂 I think the characters settle into their roles a bit better after a couple of eps. No one is very likeable at the start. I remember being on the fence about continuing, too. It’s the kind of show where the viewers get to know the characters as they get to know each other, if that makes sense. They’re all flawed, but they absolutely grew on me by the end.

Her stuff seems pretty nice for a celebrity brand, I’ve been tempted by the blushes. You look great!

I don’t think we get the brand here in Germany, but the blush looks lovely.

I don’t have much from Rare Beauty because so many of the products are creams or liquids, and I have a low tolerance for both formula types in my shadows and blushes. I have the Liquid Touch Multi-Tasking makeup sponge, which works well with my Fenty foundation, and the 2 6-pan palettes-Confident Energy and Magnetic Spirit-which were made as LE palettes for holiday 2020 but are still in stock on Sephora’s site. Both have considerably brighter color schemes than the standard Discovery palette you bought-CE is primarily lime green/blue/pink and MS is primarily pink/purple/forest green. I like the pigmentation of the shadows, and if Rare Beauty does more eye palettes that play with color, I’d probably buy them unless I hated the color scheme.
